On Buy Nothing Day it basically self explanatory it’s a day where you challenge yourself, your family and friends to switch off from shopping and tune into life. The rules are simple, for 24 hours you will keep from shopping and anyone can take part provided they spend a day without spending! Everybody goes shopping the day after thanksgiving because a lot of malls and outlets with stores in them are going to have a big and nice sweet sale, instead of paying the full original price for the item. It kind of makes stores lose money because a lot of people do Christmas shopping on "Buy Nothing Day", because everything is cheaper in stores. A lot of people don’t follow "Buy Nothing Day" because they like the deals they see. Last year was a mess a lot of people went out and bought stuff. There trying to make more people follow "Buy Nothing Day" this year in 2011.
Everything we buy has an impact on the environment. Buy Nothing Day highlights the environmental and ethical consequences of consumerism. The developed countries only 20% of the world population are consuming over 80% of the earth's natural resources, causing a disproportionate level of environmental damage, and an unfair distribution of wealth.
